Fire Commissioner – Position Description
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District (WFRD) is currently seeking applicants for one (1) open position on its Board of Fire Commissioners (BOFC). The successful applicant will be appointed to the Board for a term of three (3) years. Potential applicants must reside within 7.5 air miles of WFRD Station #1 (435 E. Judd St., Woodstock, IL). Any applicant that has been convicted of a felony in the State of Illinois or in any other State will be ineligible to serve on the BOFC.
The BOFC meets quarterly and additionally as needed. Duties and Responsibilities of the BOFC include (but is not limited to):
- Establishing policies for recruiting, testing, selection, and promotion of all members covered under its authority.
- Establishing guidelines and procedures for hearings required for discipline, demotion, and termination of members of the District covered by its authority.
- Serving as an appeals board or hearing board for District members disciplined or terminated under guidelines established by the rules of the BOFC.
Board members’ compensation consists of a base stipend of $500 per year; which covers attendance at up to four (4) regular meetings. Additional duties such as special meetings, conducting hiring or promotional interviews, etc. are compensated at the rate of $33.33 per hour.
